A New Vision for El Porvenir – Looking Toward 2028
This past weekend, the El Porvenir Board of Directors held a retreat to update our strategic plan. In addition to working through construction priorities for the next 3 years, we adopted an exciting new vision statement.
We are stepping forward with clarity and hope. Our focus is simple and bold:
“2028 will be a year of homecoming–an invitation for people to return to the mountain and witness the renewing work of God at El Porvenir.
This sacred place will overflow with restored beauty and spiritual vitality. Guests will drink crisp water from the old mine, wander trails that lead them deeper into God’s creation, warm themselves around campfire conversations that spark transformation, and rest in newly refreshed lodging designed for comfort and connection. They’ll pause in the welcome center, worship beneath starstudded skies, taste meals prepared with care, and encounter a staff eager to serve with Christ-like love.
The summer of 2028 will be unlike any in our history—eight full weeks filled with more than 200 guests each week, and September through May will bring the largest gathering of retreat groups El Porvenir has ever hosted. With upgraded lodging, improved meeting spaces, great food, and a renewed sense of mission, every guest will experience the mountain in a fresh and powerful way.
At the heart of the year will be a pinnacle celebration—a grand “return to the mountain” gathering—a time to reflect on God’s faithfulness, rejoice in what He is doing, and boldly commission the next 100 years of ministry at El Porvenir.
And so, in faith, we—the El Porvenir Board of Directors and Executive Director, on February 7th, 2026—declare this vision. Trusting in God’s leadership and stepping forward in obedience, we commit ourselves to faithfully steward this remarkable opportunity.”
And we want YOU to be part of this journey.
Save the Date! On August 29, 2026 we will celebrate El Porvenir’s 70th Anniversary—a special day to gather friends old and new, share the story of what God has done, and invite our community into this new chapter together.
We are deeply grateful for everyone who has prayed, given, volunteered, and believed in this place through difficult years. Because of you, El Porvenir is not just surviving—we are preparing to thrive like never before.
The mountain is calling.
The future is bright.
And the best days are still ahead.
